Reluctantly Complimentary, Social Media & the Coffee Industry – BCBlog Editorial from the CBG

Hello Coffee Enthusiasts,

Today I would like to talk about the effects of social media in the coffee world. It’s no secret that any social media outlet is a great way for small businesses to connect to their customer base, but what commonly goes unnoticed is how easily that concept can go south. We here at BCB try to keep our social media accounts very impersonal, which is why we decided to start this blog to give a more personal view into what we do. Social media as a whole has vastly changed the way our society connects with each other, so hopefully I can shed some light on the subject from a business owner’s perspective.

First off, let me just start by pointing out how much impact social media has on our society in general. Global Web Index performed a research study earlier this year by compiling internet usage data to estimate how much time an average individual spends on social media every day. From that data they were able to estimate that the average daily social media use for an individual between the ages of 16 and 64 in 2016 was a little over 2 hours per day. If you’re having a difficult time accepting this figure, here’s the link to the article that they produced on the topic: This data clearly shows how much of an impact social media is making on all of us, and that’s not to mention the fact that this figure is continually increasing as the years go by.

So what does that mean for small businesses like BCB? Well, it means that we have an amazing tool for raising awareness about what all we have to offer, right at our fingertips at all times. With that being said, it also means that any slip-up or mistake that we make has a very strong possibility of being prominently displayed for all of our public following to have access to. It’s easy to see how make-or-break this tool can be, which is why we take great pride in what we’ve been able to accomplish so far in the social media world.

To date, BCB has 1,516 likes on Facebook, and 1,944 followers on Instagram. We use both outlets to not only showcase special events and menu items that are coming up, but also to give a more in-depth look into the life of our coffee shops from a formal perspective. If you’re not a follower of our social media outlets yet, I strongly suggest that you take some time to go check them out right away. There are buttons right on the bottom of our homepage that will connect you directly to our social pages, and from there, the exploration is totally up to you.

Until next time,

Your CBG
